Nursing and Midwifery Council

All midwives practising in the UK must be registered with the NMC and are expected to demonstrate high standards of practice for their profession.

The core function of the NMC is to establish and improve standards of nursing and midwifery care in order to serve and protect the public. Our key tasks are to:

• Keep a live register of midwives
• Set standards for practice, education and supervision of midwives
• Consider allegations of misconduct, lack of competence or unfitness to practise due to ill health.
