24 Hours / 7 day week - 12 hour shifts rotating days and nights.

Primary Patient Diagnoses / Conditions

High risk antenatal - above 20 weeks gestation. Complicated pregnancy e.g. diabetes, PIH, bleeding disorders, multiple gestations, preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, renal and cardiac disease, Sickle-cell anemia. Occasionally - Post partum patients (SVD and C/S) and their newborns.

Procedures (Example)

• Physical Assessment
• Fetal (CTG) monitoring and interpretation of strips
• Induction of labor by Prostin
• Nalador infusions for termination of pregnancy
• Pre and post operative care
• Diabetic protocol - random blood sugar testing
• IV insertion maintenance
• IV therapy, TPN, lipid, blood and blood product administration
• Management of patient post amniocentesis / cordocentesis
• Pre & post Intra Uterine transfusion
• Patient / family education and support
