Description of Service

Number of deliveries per year: 1500

The unit is a 30 bedded unit, which caters for ante-natal, and post natal mothers combined. The unit also caters for patients undergoing Gynaecological procedures preformed. The unit has 3 separate labour wards, two assesment rooms and a lactation room. The unit provides a 24/7/365 walk in service for patients.The staffing compliment is 35 WTE.

A Special Care Baby unit is also situated within the unit. Three Paediatric Consultants serve the unit and the hospital's laboratory and radiology services support the clinical environment.

• Three Obstetrician/Gynaecology Consultants lead the service.

• Anaesthetic staff offers a 24/7/365 epidural service.

• Elective Theatre Lists; three weekly.

• Emergency cases 24/7/365 in the general theatres supported by the midwifery staff.

• Three Paediatric Consultants support the service.

• Operative interventions are undertaken in the general Theatres.

Working hours

The roster is made up of 12hr shifts, and is self rostering. I.e. 13x12hr shifts over a 4 week period. 

Shift times

• 08.00hrs - 21.00hrs day shift (1 hr lunch break)

• 20.30hrs - 08.30hrs night shift

Average number of weekends worked per month: Two weekends per month.
