Outer London NHS Trust - Midwifery Jobs in LondonOur Client a London NHS Trust provides full maternity care for about 5,000 women annually who deliver at the Hospital and at home. Home births account for less than 1 % of all births and 99.4 % of all births take place in the hospital. Antenatal care is community based for all women with uncomplicated pregnancies, and midwives and GP’s have direct referral access to consultant clinics and the Day assessment unit at the Hospital.
Profile of The TrustAntenatal Clinic Situated on the ground floor, Consultant led antenatal clinics with Consultant Diabetologist and team attending one session per week also Mental Health Team hold a weekly clinic. Links with other specialist services are available on site e.g. HIV. Phlebotomy and physiotherapy service are available within the department. Obstetric ultrasound is carried out in the Antenatal clinic and in the main ultrasound department. Mulberry Ward: on 2nd floor. 24 bedded postnatal ward consists of 5x 4 bed bays with 4 single rooms. Maple Ward: on 2nd floor. 28 bedded antenatal consists of 6x4 bed bays with 4 single rooms Delivery Suite: on ground floor, consists of 10 single delivery rooms, 4 bed bay for high risk inductions, 2 High Dependency rooms and 2 obstetric theatres Magnolia: on 1st floor, Day assessment unit which operates from 09.oohrs – 21 .00 hrs. Amenity rooms x 5 Midwifery Lead Unit/Lilac Birth Centre: is located on the 1st Floor. The unit has two pool rooms Community midwifery service: 1st floor office, with antenatal and postnatal clinics provided in GP surgeries and Health Centres.

Special Care Baby UnitLocated on 1st floor in Maternity Unit, provides level 1 care to babies. The Unit has 16 cots with 1 cot designated as an intensive care cot.
Shift timesThere are three shifts: Early 07.15-15.15 hours
Education OpportunitiesPost Basic Education courses are contracted on an annual basis with South Bank and Middlesex Universities and other sites depending on the specific courses required. The Trust provides mandatory training and the service provides a range of specific in – service training including CTG sessions, drill and skill sessions.
The Trust Induction ProgrammeEach new employee of the Trust will attend an Induction Programme soon after commencing employment. The programme covers wide range of employment issues, Health and Safety, and Clinical Governance. All new midwives are given an extensive orientation to the Maternity Unit, policies and protocols and a preceptorship
